Our Process.
From First Vision to Final Arrival.
At Fire in Ice, each stone begins with a conversation and ends with something far more personal than a purchase. Our process is intentionally slow, deeply considered, and grounded at the source—allowing you to be part of the journey from first vision to final arrival.
1. The Conversation
Every journey begins with you.
Whether you’re drawn to a particular stone, color, size, or feeling—or you simply know you want something rare and meaningful—we start by listening. Through conversation, reference images, and shared inspiration, we begin to understand what you’re envisioning and why it matters.
This step defines the search.
2. Shaping the Vision
Before any stone is selected, we refine the parameters together.
We discuss:
-
Stone type and color range
-
Size and shape preferences
-
Intended use (ring, heirloom, collection piece)
-
Timeline and budget considerations
This ensures that when we arrive at the source, we are searching with clarity and intention—not compromise.
3. At the Source
We travel directly to the gem-rich regions of Sri Lanka, working closely with trusted miners and local gem owners—relationships built over time and mutual respect.
At the mines, stones are examined in their natural state. Color, character, clarity, and potential are evaluated by eye, experience, and instinct. Most stones are sourced specifically for a client during this stage.
On rare occasions, we encounter a gem of such exceptional beauty or rarity that it cannot be left behind. These stones are carefully acquired and made available for selection.
4. Selection & Documentation
When a stone is identified, we document the process.
Clients are often shared photos and videos from the source—allowing you to see the stone as it was found and understand its origin. This transparency is central to what we do.
Once selected, the stone moves forward only with your approval.
5. Certification & Cutting
Selected stones are cut and finished by skilled lapidaries to maximize their natural beauty while preserving integrity.
Each stone is then submitted for independent gemological certification, verifying:
-
Authenticity
-
Natural origin
-
Treatment status
-
Key gemological characteristics
This step ensures confidence, provenance, and long-term value.
6. Transport to the United States
After certification, stones are securely transported in full compliance with international and U.S. import regulations.
Every step—from export to arrival—is handled with care, discretion, and attention to detail. Upon arrival, the stone is inspected once more before being prepared for its next chapter.
7. From Our Hands to Yours
Whether your stone is destined for a custom setting or held as a loose gem, it arrives with a story intact—documented, verified, and deeply personal.
This is not inventory.
This is access, intention, and origin—carried all the way through.
Timelines vary depending on availability at the source and the nature of the search. We will always guide expectations openly and thoughtfully.
