What Matters When Choosing a Colored Gemstone
Every natural gemstone has its own character, and no single quality determines its beauty. At Fire In Ice, we guide clients through five key considerations that work together to shape a gemstone's appearance, rarity, and value. You may already be familiar with the traditional "Four Cs." For natural colored gemstones, we believe one additional consideration—Origin & Treatment—is equally important to understanding what makes a stone truly exceptional.
COLOR
Color is often the first quality we respond to. We consider hue, tone, saturation, zoning, and how the gemstone appears in both natural and indoor light.

CLARITY
Natural gemstones often contain internal features formed during their creation. We focus not on clinical perfection, but on whether those inclusions affect the stone’s beauty, durability, or transparency.
CUT
Shape describes the gemstone’s outline. Cut determines how effectively it handles light. We consider brilliance, proportion, color distribution, and how large and balanced the stone appears when viewed face-up.
CARAT
Carat weight is only one measure of a gemstone. We consider proportions, face-up appearance, and overall presence, helping you choose a stone that feels larger, more balanced, and perfectly suited to its intended design.
COUNTRY
